TeachPrivacy was founded in 2010 by Professor Daniel Solove, the leading expert on privacy and data security law. Professor Solove is a law professor at George Washington University Law School. He has taught privacy and data security law since 2000, has published more than 10 books and more than 50 articles, including the leading textbook on information privacy law and a short guidebook on the subject. His LinkedIn blog has more than 1 million followers. Professor Solove’s work has been cited thousands of times, including by the U.S. Supreme Court. He has testified before Congress and has spoken around the world, including conferences organized by the FTC and HHS.

TeachPrivacy has provided training for hundreds of organizations, large and small. Many of TeachPrivacy’s clients are Fortune 500 and Fortune 1000 companies, including some of the largest companies in the world.  Professor Solove’s training is widely used by technology companies, transportation companies, automotive companies, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, higher education, government entities, merchants, marketing companies, financial institutions, and many more.

Daniel SoloveProfessor Solove is deeply involved in the creation of all training programs. He founded TeachPrivacy based on two key principles about training:

(1) Privacy and data security training should be made by subject-matter experts.
(2) Training works best when designed by people with extensive teaching experience.

His privacy awareness training courses are highly-engaging, understandable, short but thorough, and filled with concrete examples.  Professor Solove also builds his training by leveraging his relationships with privacy and security professionals. Through is scholarship, speaking, events, and consulting, Professor Solove has a wide network of professional contacts who have provided useful feedback and advice. He has honed his training to be responsive to their goals for workforce awareness. He also draws on his deep knowledge of the law and regulatory enforcement actions; he knows many of the regulators and has a wise understanding of their enforcement approaches.

Professor Solove’s approach to computer-based training is to provide a meaningful solution to organizations, not just sell training like a DVD. TeachPrivacy will customize courses, provide supporting material, work with clients to make recommendations for designing an effective training program to meet their goals, and be quick to respond to deal with any questions clients might have.  TeachPrivacy thus aims to be a helpful training partner to its clients.

“I am involved in all facets of creating our training.  My goal is to make training engaging.  Training should use the time-tested tools of effective education: stories, examples, and interactivity.  Training should stimulate the senses.  It should be fun, lively, and memorable. People will not learn unless they care.  To make people care,  a teacher must be engaging and have genuine passion for the subject.”

— Professor Daniel J. Solove
