ONLINE SOCIAL MEDIA
TRAINING & EDUCATION PROGRAM
THE PROBLEM
About 70% of parents say schools are not doing enough to educate students about the perils of using social media.
By 2012, all schools receiving federal E-rate funds must educate students about responsible Internet use.
Educators are increasingly using social media websites, and they are saying things that create a lot of trouble for schools.
The Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights has stated that if schools fail to protect against abuse online, they may violate civil rights laws.
Dealing with off-campus cyberbullying and harassment via social media sites presents challenging conflicts with free speech rights.
Employers and college admissions officers are increasingly searching online about applicants, and are rejecting them based on what they find.
